Kochi: The JD Fashion Design Awards turned Hotel Holiday Inn into a spectacle of glamour and creativity, delighting guests with a mesmerising celebration of interior designs and costume diversity themed around ‘Future Fiction’
Organised by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, renowned for nurturing India’s top design talents, the event commenced with an interior exhibition followed by a spectacular fashion show. Models gracefully strutted down the runway, showcasing the breathtaking creations of twenty-two young and talented designers.
Each collection told a unique story, from the ethereal elegance of “Sakura: Blossom of Hope” to the avant-garde allure of “Black Death” and the futuristic flair of “Astral Aura.” The names themselves hinted at the creative journeys undertaken by these budding designers.
In the realm of interior design, the ceremony recognised exceptional vision and innovation. Kiran Mariat Saji earned the prestigious Best Concept Award for her immersive Music Experience Centre, “Swara,” while Niranj KJ captivated the jury with his dynamic indoor roller skate club, “SKATE CLUB,” receiving the Special Jury Award. Aswanikrishna R. was honoured with the Best Presentation Award for her inclusive and functional design of “SEHEJ,” the Visually Impaired Training Centre; and Irin Jose impressed the audience with her dining environment, “Kimchi & Koi,” winning the Best Design Award.
In the fashion category, Rachel Erica Correya stole the limelight with her collection “Embrace,” hailed for its celebration of imperfections and individuality, earning her the coveted Best Designer Award. Archana Kamath’s “Kawach-Atita” stood out for blending warrior spirit with semi-formal wear, securing her the Best Concept Award. Swathy Sathyan’s “Orchid Blooms” was adorned with the Jury’s Choice Award, while Prasanth SS’s “Black Death” reimagined history through fashion, earning the Best Avant-Garde Collection Award. Naomi Elizabeth John empowered women with her military-inspired collection “Valour Vanguard,” winning the Best Prêt-à-Porter Collection Award. Neha K. Biju’s exploration of ageing in “Senescence” earned her the Most Innovative Collection Award, and Aparna Sasi’s “Neo Natura” celebrated nature’s harmony, receiving the Mentor’s Choice Award. Kanmani P S captured hearts with “Celestial Lament,” winning the Best Design Collection Award.
Celebrities, industry professionals, fashion consultants, influencers, and media luminaries like Firoz Khan (actor), Jojo Kurishingal (assistant director), Sudheer (actor), our former students Baby Jean (rapper), Anarkhali (actor), and more graced the event, witnessing the future stars of design showcase their talent, creativity, and innovation. The JD Design Awards not only brought aspiring designers into the industry spotlight but also underscored the evolving landscape of design, emphasising the integration of AI in trend forecasting, material selection, and pattern generation.
